Background to Nantwich Lawn Tennis Club.

Nantwich Lawn Tennis Club is over 100 years old, and for the majority of this time it occupied a site in Mount Drive Nantwich where there were two Hard Courts and three Grass Courts, and a Pavilion with  surrounding grass areas. However, in 1985 the club received a Notice to vacate the land and  received only a nominal amount in consideration, and re-located to the present site in 1986.   Four new Tarmacadum Tennis Courts were built with a small wooden Clubhouse.   This was financed from Club funds and a Grant from the North West Sports Council.

Since that time a gradual expansion programme has resulted in the four courts being Floodlit, the Drive surfaced, two more courts being built five years ago, and a new brick Clubhouse erected two years ago.   Plans are in hand for the Floodlighting of the two new courts, and, eventually it is the intention to install new Floodlighting on the original four courts, plus a "Knocking - Up" wall, and the surfacing of the car park when funds/grants permit.

As a result of these improvements and marketing efforts membership has increased greatly with 140 Adults and 80 Juniors, and concentration has been focussed on Junior development.   We have had great benefit from the services of our L.T.A. Coach Nicola Herbert and her Assistant Coach Paul Armstrong.   Coaching takes place for both Adults and Juniors, the latter as young as 4 years, this includes members and non - members.   Close liaison with schools is maintained, and Coaching Courses are held in school holidays.   Club nights are held on Monday and Wednesdays and some seven teams (Ladies and Gents) take part in the local District League, and in addition monthly Club Tournaments are held.   New members are most welcome and contact may be made through the President Ron Smith Tel 01270 662871, Chair Sue Winters Tel 01270 582808, Treasurer Colin Laughlan Tel 01270 666332

Development programme  began in April 2001 by laying a proper driveway to the club ground,at that time we had a rubble drive and a wooden shed with 4 courts. In the last 7 years we have with immense effort and good use of money laid 2 new courts and this year have a new Clubhouse.

The new Clubhouse was officially opened on Saturday 15th September 2007 and we were privileged with the Mayor of Crewe and Nantwich Councillor Maurice Jones and the Chairman of Nantwich Town Council Councillor Bill McGuiness to officially open the Building.
